About the Artist
Stock Schlueter grew up in the small California town of Willow Creek
and now resides in the coastal town of Eureka. The area's rivers, forested
mountains and rugged coastline continue to influence Schlueter profoundly.
His innate feel for the land, a result of direct experience throughout his
life, is forever a part of his art. One can feel the land within his paint.
Schlueter uses color sparingly to convey the sense of nature's subtle transitions.
Much of his work is completed in the field, en plein air, through direct observation
and often in one sitting. His larger pieces may be started in the field and finished
in the studio.
Schlueter enjoys national recognition, showing in galleries and museums throughout
the country. His work is represented by the Fairmont Gallery in Sonoma, the John
Pence Gallery in San Francisco and Meridian Fine Art in Arcata.
Artist's Statement
"An artist's job is to observe life and tell the story of being here. How fantastic
it is just to see the wonder and beauty of the world!
Each artist has their own challenge, their own story to tell. For me, I aim to
capture the time and place of the specific moment. I want the viewer to feel the
air and know that day. Painting things as they are is all the statement that's needed."
